A Tango festival "By Dancers; For Dancers"
(With a Southwestern Flair)
B rought to you by the organizers of the Denver Tango Festivals. The 8th Annual Labor Day Tango Festival moves to Albuquerque this year. Albuquerque and Santa Fe have a robust community of good dancers, who are thrilled to host and welcome the Denver Tango Festival road trip. The Denver Tango Festivals are designed for all tango dancers who love the social style of tango popular in the milongas of Buenos Aires: close, subtle & romantic.
We expect the Tango Festival to attract a high level of dancer. This means that skill level in classes will high. Classes are the best way to meet people for the dances later in the evening. Early arrival workshops for Advanced and Adv-Intermediates start on Thursday with Christopher Nassopoulos. Intermediates will be offered an early arrival workshop on "Skills for Navigating Crowded Dance Floors".
We do not offer Beginner classes. However this festival offers full weekend track of Intermediate as well as Adv-Intermediate/Advanced classes where you can meet people for the dances in the evening. Intermediate assume you already know the basics of tango, i.e. ochos, ocho-cortados, improvisation, and navigation. Adv-Intermediate & Advanced classes don't present much vocabulary; instead they focus on musicality, technique, and dance skills. All teachers will offer instruction on navigation and floorcraft, with the goal of helping everyone improve the feel of the dance floors.
Changes for this year: We move to Albuquerque due to the Democratic National Convention soaking up all the hotels. New Mexico is a convenient and beautiful drive from Denver, Tucson and Phoenix. Southwestern, Frontier and United airlines are good bets for flights.
All events take place at the Albuquerque Hilton, except the outdoor Milonga and Southwestern Buffet Dinner, which is at the National Hispanic Center 1701 4th Street SW Albuquerque, NM, 87102. (Just south of downtown Albuquerque at the intersection of 4th Street SW and Avenida César Chávez)
Please note price change due to expenses associated with the outdoor milonga.
